Violin and viola lessons

Cathy offers one-to-one lessons in violin and viola (violin from beginner to diploma level/music conservatoire entrance and viola from beginner to grade 8).

She believes that music education should be holistic, fun, challenging, rewarding and life-enhancing, no matter if you are a beginner of 5 or 50 years old, or an advanced student aiming to join the music profession.

Cathy has over 25 years experience of professional performance and teaching stringed instruments, and has taught in most contexts; maintained, independent and public schools, Junior Conservatoire, private studio lessons and whole-class schemes. As an experienced classroom teacher from KS1 through to A level, she is used to working with children and young people with a variety of life experiences and learning needs.

She holds an annual concert that all pupils are able to take part in, and encourages pupils to enter grade exams, local music festivals and competitions, to audition for local and national ensembles and to seize every possible performance opportunity!

Cathy is fully trained in child safeguarding and is a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Jo, parent of an 8-year-old pupil

Cathy really cares about teaching children to read music and play to the best of their ability. She takes the time to get to know the child and their interest in music. I highly recommend Cathy to anyone considering violin lessons for their children.

Zoe, parent of a diploma student

Cathy has been a tremendous help to both my children on their musical journey.

Karen, adult beginner pupil

I'm a complete beginner in my 50s - I'd fully recommend Cathy as a teacher, she is very friendly and encouraging and has really helped by observing and steering me towards what to work on.
